The national women’s team of Singapore will be in Canberra this week to play a trio of matches against local opposition with a fixture against Westfield W-League champions Canberra United sandwiched between a pair of matches with local Women’s Premier League outfit Canberra FC.
Canberra United, the reigning Westfield W-League title holders, will face the Singapore side on Wednesday evening at the AIS Grass Fields with kick-off at 6.30pm and should provide a lively occasion for the visitors as the greens are on a seven match unbeaten run in the national competition.
This will be the second time that Canberra United has faced international opposition having previously tested themselves against South Korea B in a mid-season friendly match in 2010 with the Koreans running out 3-1 winners at Deakin Stadium, ironically home of Canberra FC themselves.
The local club side, Canberra FC, should provide a stern warm-up for the Singaporeans ahead of the midweek clash with United with the squad coming off the back of a successful 2015 season which saw them reach the Grand Final in the ACT Women’s Premier League. Whilst FC will field a mixture of regular first-grade players and a raft of trialists the match will form an important part of their pre-season preparations.
Admission to all three games is free and spectators are welcome to attend.
