ACT Women’s Premier League
Matchday 7 Preview

The ACT Women’s Premier League reaches Matchday 7 with a trio of games that may go a long way to determining the make-up of the top four come the conclusion of the season. With that thought in mind it’s imperative that teams find their groove and turn in performances that bring three points to boost their hopes of landing the trophies at the end of the year.

And none know that better than reigning treble holders Belconnen United. The Blue Devils make the trip to Hawker Football Centre to take on Canberra FC aiming to avenge their surprise loss earlier in the campaign. That defeat hasn’t proved too costly to the always dangerous Belconnen, but it did indicate that Canberra FC are a force to be reckoned with and are building on their maiden Grand Final appearance last term.

Both teams have introduced a number of exciting young talents into their Matchday squads over the first few months of the season and we can anticipate seeing a plethora of these players come kick-off on the weekend. Belconnen will fancy their chances but, if FC can find the form that saw them claim the win earlier in the year, then they could close the gap on the leaders.

At Woden Park two teams who will be jostling for that fourth place on the table meet as Woden-Weston FC welcomes Tuggeranong United. With the truncated group of teams in the 2016 competition, and with Belconnen, Gungahlin United and Canberra FC in great form, the likelihood is that one of these two will miss out come finals time. That makes matches between the pair the proverbial ‘six-pointer’ and the winners here will be well-placed.

The final game of Matchday 7 sees Women’s Premier League football return to the Riverside Stadium in Queanbeyan as the CU Academy takes their home game to New South Wales as they meet Gungahlin United. The youngsters from the Academy are certainly learning from their Premier League debut season and the Gunners will provide another test of their mettle.
